So there has been plenty of debate over which game is better in terms of game play. Some love the big epic battles in SC, some love the heroes and smaller fights of WC. What I am wondering though, is which story do people prefer?

While there are a lot of reoccurring themes similar in both story lines (love, betrayal, unity to vanquisher the greater evil), they still have some significant differences.

Personally I am torn.. I honestly have no idea which of the two stories I like more. I am curious where others stand on the issue though, and why?

I've only played Wc3 and been told about WoW's lore through friends.

But I can honestly say that I find the SC lore to be one of the richest in the gaming community as a whole. It is the biggest reason I love the franchise.

Wc3's story didn't cut it for me. I like believability, and Wc3 was too full of irrational actions by characters and horrible fantasy cliche's. Which I don't really enjoy.

Starcraft FTW!

I love stories with history so I do like WarCraft. But nothing captured my imagination like StarCraft did. This is the longest running obsession in my life, and when SC2 comes out, its will be another decade.

WarCraft is more mythological and is pretty epic with its gods and titans and such.

but SC is more realistic with the way that all the characters are not devine and all powerfull, even in lore. they are all mortal and are like all the others of their species just slightly more powerfull in some aspect.

so i like SC better overall, but WC has some good lore and is interesting but not as interesting as SC.

that's the same reason for me as well. Starcraft heroes have realism. I always hate it when a hero is invincible and simply annihilates his competition with ease. SC goes beyond that and shows that the SC heroes are just random individuals working together. and they are also shown vulnerability, as they are slowly killed off by betrayal that one would never expect.

Killing off heroes is what made me like the SC story-line. It emotionally attaches you to a certain race and a certain hero, then kills off that hero. making you want to take the revenge into your own hands.

I dunno. Just brushing back up on StarCraft's story I now recall the true extent of the betrayal init. While some of it's definitely believable, it always seemed to me that everyone was too trustworthy of Kerrigan. That and it was backstab after backstab between the different forces.

As for Kerrigan she basically tricked everyone into helping her so she could then go from pawn of the Zerg to being the complete and unchallenged leader over every Zerg force. Not only that, after she becomes the leader she goes on to wipe out every Terran and Protss force that face her.

I'm not saying this makes SC's story better than WC's, I am just throwing it out there. There are PLENTY of things I don't really care for in WarCraft's lore.

Starcraft is good, but I find Warcraft games to have a very good story as well. Of course I talk of Warcraft games form a more civilized era, before the dark times, before WoW.

I will have to admit that I am much more the Starcraft and Diablo fan then I am Warcraft gamewise, so it's only natural for me to have more knowledge and a stronger understanding of Starcraft's and Diablo's story and lore. My biased vote goes for Starcrafts.

There are some things I just can't wrap my head around, mostly revolving around Duran and his flawless plan.

On another note, I do feel that Diablo is undershadowed by the Warcrafts and Starcrafts throughout the years. It is one of Blizzard's flagship creations, but its really a darkhorse compared to the other two

In my opinion SC lore is awsome and its better then WC. I think main reason because of the characters. And also Im kinda tired of elves, mages and other myth crap

Well, one could say the Warcraft story is finished (!@#$ WoW) and the Starcraft story is just beginning, so it is hard to judge at this point which has the better story.

I suppose there still is a chance of Warcraft 4 (pretty please?) to clean up the !@#$ that WoW left on the doorstep. I love, and I mean love, starcraft lore. However, I'm a sucker for swords and spells and demons and elves (I made a rhyme ^^). I don't know which one to pick.

Well, I think they are all great stories, objectively. Why can't we have an option for choosing them both? )

First, I wonder if you really expect a differant answer by asking a question like this on a starcraft 2 fansite...

However i prefer Starcraft because im bored of elves and orcs. There is also the mood in starcraft that i prefer much more.

You might be surprised. If I had included Diablo as an option (which I kinda wish I would have now), that might have won seeing as there are so many Diablo fans on this forum.

Just because it is a SC forum doesn't mean there aren't TONS of WarCraft fans here too. A lot of WC fans may be here just bidding their time till WC gets another proper sequel (no WoW bullshit).
