Roaches Can We Fix It? | Dec 7th 2009, 16:22 | |

Haha, the legacy of the Ravager lives on
![]() Off the top of my head, I had a bizarre idea. What if Roaches, instead of healing, have the ability to path over structures? Or spell related obstructions (Force Field?). Although it might create targeting problems, I think that would help Roaches tank- literally barge into the enemy's base from the front door and crawl all over the place (structure placement dependent). Edit: Actually, what if Roaches could path UNDER structures. Like Reaper's Cliff Jump, a Roach cannot remain inside the building and will appear on the other side of the structure at the direction it was moving or facing? -Psi

Ahh yes, the ravager.
It gains hp every time it attacks a unit. Maybe the roach should absorb this idea. It gains maybe 1 hp every time it gets hit. Also it gains depending on the armour. Like if it has 1 armour 1 hp. That sounds good.

I love all these ideas, but we know Blizzard isn't going to make the Roach like that just cause we say so. Blizzard will do what Blizzard does best--do what they think is best. Because their reputation depends on it.

I know, but it wasn't my idea, it was psiwarps idea.
That is so dog of them. We are the people playing the games, not them. They make it, we play it, we comment on it. They should listen to us now, so if they do stuff up, its our fault, and I accept it. But if they stuff up, and don't take our idea, then its their fault, and we will bag them.

So you're assuming that you'll assault with just roaches and when they die you cry about them dying too fast?

I think the OP is trying to say this:
"Roaches are plain, even if they do their job as meat shields, Blizzard can put more personality and interesting gameplay into this new concept." -Psi

I think they already did, managing burrow effectively will be a new challenge to zerg players. They get the new feature of healthbars to help with that micro. I think its perfectly fine the way it is, super fast regeneration that requires good micro, but counterable with detectors. We dont really need to talk about this anymore |

Lol. So Roaches are really nothing like hydralisks. And you forgot that it can't attack air and has shorter range. My Roach wish: Option A plus the roach switches attack bonuses with the hydralisk. The hydralisk becomes anti-bio and the roach becomes anti-armor It just makes more sense to me.

Roaches who regenerate super fast while above ground...remind you of anything? How about old protoss shields. They fixed that and they fixed super regen roach and made it a strategic unit not simply run away when ur guys are hurt and attack again. I bet you, roaches are going to be used all the time. I know im using them with burrow. |

Burrow is a form of retreat, on the technicality.
On the Protoss Shield mechanic, I suppose the reason behind its removal is a) Rapid partial vitality restoration, b) Protoss with high vitality count, c) Warp-In for quick deployment on battlefield. Roach's Option A is no different for a) Mass production and b) Constant regeneration at high rate. Of course, Roaches will still be used for Burrow-micro, which can be very rewarding in itself (it's invisible AND regains HP, hot dog!!). That doesn't exclude the option to explore better alternatives and perfect the unit as much as possible. -Psi

I think they removed it because protoss would play way too defensively and people dont want a boring game like that. Same with roach regen, they just run them back home when theyre hurt. Burrow micro with regen atleast looks more impressive haha. But when they removed roaches unburrowed regen they gave it more hp. I think its a good trade, roaches are still tank as crap. |

Either way, Shield mechanic benefited the Protoss both offensively and defensively.
Rapid regeneration + Large HP pool + Powerful damage = No Way Jose. True, Roach burrow micro will be very cool. I am fine the way that works, but the overall unit itself is still blah. -Psi

It could use a more interesting attack animation, right now it just takes a piss on the enemy. Maybe it could be shinier? I know the roach has bright things on its back when it gets super regeneration, but i think it needs to look more impressive.

I agree, the green is getting a bit trendy with the Zerg (Extractor, Spawning Pool, Spawn Larvae, Baneling, Baneling Nest..).
I would like for the Roach's axes to change into Queen-like spines, that can stretch across 3 range and attack enemies !!-Psi
