D players aren't noobs. They're just at the bottom of the competitive ladder meaning that they're better than the average player.

An average player with a life is below a D level with apm around 50-150.

This is the answer i was looking for and suspected. thx

PsyonicReaver has been making some FPVOD`s and he is around D+/C-. You could try checking his YouTube channel.

EDIT: The only problem is that he plays Protoss. So if that is not your race of choice, then they will not be of much use to you.

I disagree. I think you take the average player and they would be a solid D if they played like iccup or something. Most of the D level players DO have apms around 50-150.

haha ya, D- is the lowest you can get but I believe there should be an F ranking. Most people who play for the first time or play UMS only/a lot, they sit down there. It takes a long time to get out of D. Trust me the jump from D to C is a big one. People on C levels just amaze me.

Think about it this way. D-/D/D+ is the beginning of a player. C-/C/C+ is an exceptionally good player who can face just about anybody without panicking. B-/B/B+ is about pro, to the point where you could compete in tourneyments. And lastly A-/A/A+ is where a newborn korean sits at.

It takes a long time to get good, so get yourself a training buddy or a teacher, otherwise if you just play random people once in a while you will probobly stay down on D for a very long time. If you play USWest hit the Trib up

First post!!

I am also in this boat, I just beat the bw campaign (I found the last levels pretty difficult) and can beat up to three coms under optimal conditions. I have never played against another player, but looking at the vids I reckon I don't even scratch the surface on D-.

A couple question:-what is iccup and how do I get it?
-how do I find out my apm?
-once I get my **** together does anyone of a similar level to that stated above wanna play? I would like to play someone where I have a chance of winning, cos I don't think I could take thirty losses in a row :-)

Technically an "average" player doesn't necessarily mean a "bad/nooby" player... in fact Starcraft is an old game and the "average" player who still play this old school game is actually quite experienced. And those who play on Iccup are actually semi interested in getting better, meaning they've been exposed to some concepts like build orders and such and may even have viewed a few pro games. But don't worry, I'm sure there are plenty of "casual" players out there who are noobs in terms of starcraft (if you can't beat the AI, then you're probably going to lose to D rank players)

We bully those who get A-. We pity their skills and insult them for being noobs. Do not include them in the newborn Korean category. They don't deserve to be called that.

D/D- are often players who basically know their list of build orders, 80-90+ APM, some micro skills. Sometimes you may run into rerolled koreans or As who just steam roll you. Other times, you run into actual noobs who don't know what a build order is. (Sometimes you run into complete a-holes that talk crap then when you beat em they whine for a rm then d/c). It's not too hard to move to a D rank level. Best thing to do is remember the build orders, and basic ideas of how to counter. You learn alot from replays in terms of who's doing better, what you failed to see, etc. You won't get too much out of watching uncommented FPVODs if you don't know the basic terms.

Every post on this thread is excellent advice! I have a theory about why some players just seem unbeatable. Sure, it may be because of practice and skill, but it also has to do with the bicameral mind. Basically, it just means the sheep-like people who follow external authority instead of using their own brains to decide what is right for themself and not using objective, rational, honest thinking. In addition, bicameral minded people (which is like 95% of the population) are lazy. Some more than others, but it all comes down to a person's passion. If a person is passionate enough about something they'll get so fired up about it that he/she begins to fit facts together like puzzle pieces to form an ever-increasing super puzzle. In other words, when that person gathers enough knowledge and puts it to practice in reality they can accomplish anything they want! So get passionate!

I know I some people might think this is something they already know, but the truth is that they don't remember this theory I mentioned until someone actually talks about it! If anyone thinks this is too simple then that's exactly it. All the so-called gurus and whatnot try and make everything as complicated as possible so that people become so confused that they become paralyzed and are reduced to not taking any action all!!

So remember, if anyone wants to succeed they have to take action and think for themselves and not be dictated by any politician or some other external authority. Just my two cents if anyone gives a rip about what I just typed here.

Nice advice. I don't think casual gamers even like starcraft. Compare Red Alert 3 to Starcraft. In Red Alert 3 I rank 450s in starcraft I'm like below d-. Pretty huge diffrence. I really think that if your good at starcraft your going to be great at any other strat.

lmfao xD

@Hao: yea, with iccup you must be actually interested in getting good at the game. It is not a good place to set up a casual long lasting game or to kick back. Some serious people on there. My first match on there i played against a zerg C- player that used a mutalisk rush and speedlings, the standard. Kicked his ass with 2 spores and a bunch of hydras xD. The casual player, the one that plays ums and barely touches melee will probobly sit at about 30-40 apm, whereas someone on iccup will have an average of 150-400 which is absolutely insane. Me, I'm kickin it at 110 and leavin it at that till I can get me a training partner. My last one quit .

well we could be practice partners sort of, but we'd only be doing ZvZ... we should find at least 2 players from every race and try to form a group.

We could do that but realize I can play protoss or terran if it comes down to it. I think that if i can be those races then I can train you to where you are equal, and from there we can train together. As of now it's more or less like slaughter . But yea I could grab yondaime, ulq, Noob and a few others together.

Back to the topic at hand. if you want to get better than the average gamer at melee, there are Three rules to follow.

1) Do not play fastest. Although its the opposite of melee it's still a fight right? wrong, this map tends to teach you how to macro a ton of resources you will never have, and you will value the wrong units and the wrong buildings to attack

2) Don't play computers. Even if you manage to be able to kill 7 computers at once, even on a low money map, chances are you will be using tactics that will not work against a thinking human. Computers act completely different to the human and that my friend, I cannot stress enough.

3) Get a buddy. This is the most handy way to get good. Is he too bad? Train his ass, make him good. My friends are now starting to whoop on me, so now they are excellent training partners. are they too good? Let them give you pointers, and watch them carefully. Even if their tactics and movements are not what the pros use, you can make that step up, and go from there. Nobody makes a jump from D to A (Unless you are a 8 month old in the womb korean going to birth at 9 months).

haha it works. I remember a korean was observing a match on python with me, and one person left. we asked the korean to play and he said he was just a noob and he's no good. we FORCED him to play, and he had an apm of about 300 and annihilated the enemy it was frickin hilarious xD.
