Show me a vid from an average player please. | Nov 25th 2009, 00:55 | |

After you guys showed me teamliquid site I have read alot and started to watch ICCUP vids. And let me tell you, I felt like rick rolled watching those vids. I watched "low ranked", that is D games thinking it would look noobish but wtf was that.
Is that the bottom of the ladder? Are you kidding me? I feel like I would need to practice for years just to maybe win one game vs to any D level player. Please tell me those guys are not the guys that will be in the bottom of the upcoming SC2 battle.net ladder? Those guys cant possibly represent the "average" starcraft player do they??!!! Show me an AVERAGE starcraft player vid please. And I do mean AVERAGE. |

I see many players do some sick fast selecting at start, what are they doing? Just watch the first 30 sec and you will see.
They drag the mouse 10000 times per sec over the workers, right? What is that for? grouping them? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHAqzBYuFKw and btw, this cant possibly be some average dude =) |

Ever wondered how they get such high APM? There you got the answer ...

i would say D level player is average...but why waste your time watching those videos, if you want to get better it will only show you the wrong things to do |

In any way of War, you learn success not by studying the victories, but by studying the defeats. The dragging a thousand times over the workers while they work is like a musician tapping their foot to keep beat; even when they are in measures of rest. Its done to keep their rush going. SC is generally all about time. The less time you spend dragging the box, aiming for a unit or casually finding something to click on period, the better. So, to keep up pace even during waits, they are still moving their hands to keep warm. Those guys have been doing it enough that it just LOOKS like they are on crack, but trust me, there is reason behind their madness. If you're looking to play competitively then yeah, unfortunately those are your "Average Joes" of PRO SC, or Competitive SC anyway. However, if you're not really wanting anything to do with Competitive play then I don't know what else to really tell you. Just play with friends and have fun. Record the game while your at it and watch your own games. A lot of the times its actually quite humorous watching yourself stinking it up but as I said at the beginning of this post, you're only going to learn from your mistakes. Just have some fun, and if you wanna' game an Average level game, like, for real average level game, I'll game ya! I don't mind.

Im just gonna put up the flame tent first.... there Im covered. Two games that i like is WoW arena and Quake. Whan i began with both I watched a lot of vids. After a while i got the feeling on what was an average dude and what was really good. In WoW vids I started so see some really nice timings and synergies between classes and teams and i understood that takes some good coordination, knowledge about the enemy cooldowns etc. Its just not "luck" some teams happen to press some abilities at a certain point. In quake likewise. Seeing youtube vids I can see that the player is good or bad. I am too new to Starcraft and I am eager =) I am starting to learn but I want to in the meanwhile be ahead and see where the average player is so I have some reference to what is good and bad. It will take me quite sometime to figure out how bad or how good I am so thats why Im asking you guys to show me an average player. Also how many of you beat the D players consistently? |

Currently, I'm a complete SC noobzor, I admit it. Especially when it comes to professional StarCraft. But you can only improve if you stop saying "OMG I'll never be able to do that". That goes for everything you learn, not just StarCraft, and not just games. So, instead of complaining, try to figure out what are the weak points of losers and the strength of winners. That's all there is to it. ![]() ![]() |

In the pro videos, they show you what to do, but what people really need to see is what not to do, which is something that you don't regularly see in the Battle Reports.

Well... I'm a D player on iCCup... which I would say IS average... since there are about as many D's as there are C's, B's, A' and Olympics combined... There are some D's that are better than other D's but not quiet as good as D+ (I hope I'm not losing you...) Starcraft is THE HARDEST GAME EVER MADE... (Not hard to learn but VERY hard to master and get to a high level...) You need A LOT of speed, hand to eye coordination, multitasking, etc, etc, etc... Do you know what APM is? Action Per Minute. The video you linked is of C level players... which is a lot better than D... Their APM is 240-250... that's 250 clicks per minute... that's 4 actions per second... honestly I never had more that 170 apm at peak and never more that 120 overall... sooo I'm still not sure how they do it... maybe I'm old and slow =( But yeah... Pick you race, learn Build Orders vs different match ups (If you're Terran learn Terran build orders vs one race first... one or two build orders... and practice them as much as you can... over and over and over and over and over.......... you get the point) Once you memorize the build orders and timings so well that you don't have to think about it anymore you'll definitely be ready to move on to another race and you'll feel a lot different about it... for example if it was really hard to learn and execute your first ever build order, once you do learn it, others will be a piece of cake... in an average game... then as you play more and more (and keep watching VODs/FPVODs, etc etc of other better players, watch your own replays, talk to someone whos better than you, play people that are better than you and repeat all of the steps) you'll start getting better. =) The thing about SC is you have to be dedicated. You can't lose 30 games in a row and say "Ahhh, **** this game!" You have to ****yze everything you did wrong... try to do it differently the next time... practice practice practice... after a while you'll start seeing results... I still suck and don't remember all of the build orders... but i'm WAY better than I was 2 months ago when I started playing... hear me? 2 months ago! You can do it too... or even better! PS Have you played the campaign? =) |

It's actually not that hard to learn SC and don't bother watching average players; you don't learn anything from them and there's no point in making a benchmark for the "average player", as you'll be limited by it. Improve as much as you can. Game is so mapped out you can basically look up a strategy guide on TL and know exactly what to do from early-mid game to set up your midgame econ. After that is what you really need to learn. So if you want to improve all you have to do is: 1) Learn BO 2) Practice it vs comp to get it down by heart 3) Mass game it vs humans to get a general feel of it and get a general gamesense of SC 4) Learn from your losses and improve them 5) Macro like a beast 6) Macro like a beast 7) Macro like a beast Macro like a beast9) ??? 10 PROFIT! Also D level players aren't all that good... They only look good because your a complete noob, no offense. Their micro is terribad and their macro is almost non-existant.. All you really need to know is a BO and macro well and that gets you to C- And if you want to improve, NEVER cheese. All-ins and cheeses and whatnot destroy the foundation of SC learning. |

D players aren't noobs. They're just at the bottom of the competitive ladder meaning that they're better than the average player.
An average player with a life is below a D level with apm around 50-150. |
