In a Q&A found over at Giantbomb.com, we have Chris Sigaty, Dustin Browder, and PR rep (also an international player) Bob Colayco answering a lot of good questions about Starcraft 2. One thing to take note is the fact:

Goliaths, Wraiths and Vultures are back.

We were probably shocked with all the information about these "Hellions", "Vikings", etc in the Starcraft 2 at the beginning, but at least it comes as a relief we can still use them in the single-player now.

Since you talk about there being so many choices on the tech side in the campaign, are there any differences between the units and the tech in the campaign, and what you're going to see in the multiplayer? Is there single-player-specific stuff?

Dustin: So we're looking at having a lot of units, especially for Raynor as a mercenary, he's getting access to and buying technologies that are appropriate for the kind of down-and-out mercenary scumbag like he is. So he'll have access to things like Goliaths and Wraiths and Vultures, and all these old weapons that are not part of modern Dominion forces like we see in the multiplayer. Maybe some prototype stuff that would simply be way too powerful for any kind of multiplayer experience, but he can steal it and make use of it. So you'll definitely see not only new units, but lots and lots and lots of upgrades that simply would not be appropriate for multiplayer.

Yeah the campaine is going to be totally kickass.

BUT isn't the single player kinda made to teach a new player about a race and how to use it for multiplayer?

I can only imagine they will have one separate for that.

But personally speaking, I wouldn't do that, due to the dynamic nature of online gaming, there is no way they can prepare a noob for what's to come on ladder bnet.

@swarmower99- not necesarrily. for sc2, blizzard seems to be focusing mainly on the campaign. they would assume that you will get used to it. (at least thats what i assume.) and i am not suprised to see the return of these units in the campaign. you can put them in star edit, so why not?

I knew about the older units making a come back in the campaigns, but the prototype units have me interested. I wonder if they will test out new units for the following xpacs.

That opens up a lot of stuff from the novels like the Specter.

Hmm, I thought it was known "since the announcement" that all SC1 units would be in the editor.

I only learned of their inclusion in the Terran campaign now at Blizzcon, where the Firebat was used in footage as an example of units that can be purchased.

Pretty much.

Plus whoever said solo is to teach a player. I suggest go to giantbomb.com and read their QA about SC2, its a nice read. They said they will make a short tutorial for people just getting to know the race, but ultimately single player isnt for a smooth switch to multi. They know that obviously in multiplayer you're under much more stress and pressure.
