The second day of BlizzCon also held the second Starcraft II panel, hosted by Chris Metzen and Andrew Chambers. While not a lot was revealed, some interesting details were mentioned.

In Chris Metzen`s opinion, Starcraft 2 will feature some of the best story ever written by Blizzard. The Dark Templar Saga and I, Mengsk connect to the storyline in Starcraft 2 and the storyline from Ghost (including with Nova herself) will, in some manner, feature as well.

Both the Terran and Zerg campaigns will have a clean resolution, but which will still connect to the overarching threat in the universe which will reach it`s culmination in the Protoss campaign. The Terran campaign will also feature several mini-campaigns, in order to change the pace.

The Protoss relationship with humanity will also play an important role in the storyline. However, Metzen has guaruanteed that the United Earth Directorate will not be a part of the events in the game.

Metzen and Chambers have also revealed more background of currently known characters:

- Swan is a former Kel-Morian worker who lead a unsuccesfull revolt. Although he lost his arm, he was saved by Jim Raynor. Since then, he has been a part of the Hyperion crew as the main engineer, trying to keep together the decaying ship.
- Tychus Findlay covered for Raynor and ensured his freedom by going to prison. He represents what Raynor could have become if things had gone diffrently.
- Gabriel Tosh has some connection to Nova from his days in the Ghost Academy. He will feature in the comic novel of the same title. He is a representation of Raynor`s "evil side".

A new character was also revealed by the name of Dr. Ariel Hanson, a young female scientist (and likely a colonist of Agria) who will act as Raynor`s love interest and a representation of his "good side".

Two interesting facts were also revealed. The Trilogy pictures (revealed at the Gameplay panel) will likely be available as backgrounds. Also, the game has four times more in-game cinematics then pre-rendered ones.

Lastly, as a side note, there are Protoss colonies that are out of contact with the majority on Shakuras.

Thanks Tom!

Wow this somewhat reminds me of the Suffering. There was always a character that represented the good in the character and always another one to contrast it with evil. I wonder how extreme they will make each moral choice.

I wish they told how specters would be involved, if they are involved at all.

That last statement probably confirms what I thought, Artarnis will have to unite the protoss through peace or force.

Looks like the three campaigns won't hang together as much as those in SC1 or especially BW, but that might turn out all right. We'll just have to see.
That the UED doesn't return was to be expected, but I'm going to miss those adorable little fascists.

Tychus Findlay covered for Raynor and ensured his freedom by going to prison.

Hmm, he might consider Raynor a friend like he used to, or harbor some serious resentment towards him after spending a lot of time in the icehouse.

Sweet.

Love the bit about in game cinematics, can't wait to see what kind of cool stuff they do with that.

i think that with the war against the zerg, they'd rather be assistance to the protoss in shakuras

then again, with the protoss being more diplomatic--they could be (renegade) :D

I am really fond of the nova and links to the dark templar saga stuff, but i dont understand how the terrans and zerg will get clear resolutions while the threat still reaches its maximum during the protoss campaign?

While the Terran and Zerg campaigns will mostly have their own storyline, those storylines will still be connected to the overarching plot which is explored more in-depth in the Protoss campaign.

I hope that makes it a bit more clear.
