New Infestation Mechanic Idea - Infestor

I thought of a new mechanic that would replace the Infested Terrans. Here it is...

Infestation - Infestor Ability
Energy: 150
Target: Any Enemy Building can be Infested
Infestation Gland Hit Points: 250
Gestation Period: 10 seconds

Note: This ability must be channeled by the Infestor during the Gestation Period.

The Infestor targets an enemy building and produces an infestation gland on that building during a gestation period of 10 seconds. Once the gestation period is complete, the gland will emerge on that building like a beating heart, and the building will become infested. The infested building is under Zerg control, but if the gland is destroyed, the target building will revert back to normal operation.

Once the target building is infested, two things happen:

1. The infested building will produce a cloud of infestation spores swirling around it and will slowly infest other surrounding building in the area adding more infested buildings under Zerg Control. This will continue indefinitely until the gland is destroyed. If there are mutliple infestation glands in an enemy base, each gland will have their respective infested buildings and will revert back to normal operation if their respective gland is destroyed. Note if no buildings are in the immediate vicinity of these infestation spores, the infestation will not spread... so the ability is best used on buildings close together.

2. Infested buildings will be covered with small sacs that will allow the production of the Zerg Hatchlings and the hatchlings have a limited duration. The hatchling replaces the infested terran, but could have a similiar model... but no gauss rifle.

Zerg Hatchling
HP: 50
Cost: 25 minerals
Duration: 1 minute
Weapon: Acid Spore
Range: 5
Ground Attack: 5
Air Attack: 5
Total Limit Allowed: 50

If the infestation gland is not destroyed, an entire enemy base could slowly become infested while being overrun by Zerg Hatchlings. Remember, kill the beating heart (gland) to stop this infestation from spreading! The Cloud of Infestation Spores could have a really cool effect as they swirl around infesting buildings. This idea feels more zergish than just spawning infested terrans.

Another word for infestation is invasion and this ability can do just that!

This idea is rough and can be tweaked for balance.

Your thoughts...

This is very similar to the infestor a while back, before it got nerfed:

Seems a bit OP that all the Zerg has to do is defend the building for a few seconds before it can summon more units... and more units make it even tougher to take down while it infests more buildings, leading to even more units.

And this is assuming the Zerg tries to infest only one building at a time.

I would love to see corruptors used as harassers with your idea. It sounds very zergy and you should submit it on blizzard website. The idea that it spreads if you ignore it is creepy too haha.

was kinda already in game at one point "it was not as bad as your idea" seem like you took there idea and made it stronger.

It was removed in a weaker state because it was too powerful and really unfair.

But thanks for the idea.

Certainly a LOT better than vomiting Infested Terrans with their armor and guns.

Remember this is a rough idea and can be tweaked as needed. This idea is alot more zergish than vomiting infested terrans and could potentially be a game changer if left alone.

Also, it gives the Infestor the ability to INFEST the enemies base!

That's just it though, it gives a single Infestor the ability to rape an entire base, provided it has protection for a short amount of time.

I will admit though, it is a LOT more Zerg-ish than the normal ability.

Corruptors can already "infest" buildings. The Infestor can already produce temporary units.

Here's a new idea for the Infestor:

Infest:

-Energy: 25.
-Single targe.
-Description: the Infestor shoots a parasite inside an enemy unit. If the unit is biological, it will then start to slowly lose health, losing 150 hp during a 30 seconds period. It will also provide you vision for that time, like Parasite in SCI. If the unit dies while under this effect, 1 Infested Terran will spawn from the corpse. If the unit isn't biological, it will provide you vision for that 30 seconds, but nothing else.

or

-Energy: 125.
-AoE, affects biological units.
-Description: the Infestor spawns a plague on a medium area. Those units that get hit then start slowly losing health, losing 150 hp during a 30 seconds period. If the unit is biological, it will spawn 1 Infested Terran when it dies. If the unit is not biological, nothing will happen.

I think the first one is better.

Thats the point... if you leave the infestation gland alone without killing it quickly you will be severly punished. And remember, the infestation of the other buildings by those infestation spores is a slow process. This is not an instant infested base like you guys may think... but occurs over time. The base will slowly be infested if the gland is not destroyed... and once you are pumping out hatchings will be very difficult to counter. If you quickly see that beating heart on the building and kill it... nothing happens.

This Infestation ability has a ramp up time... and once a few buildings are infested.... its going to be hell to get rid of it! I think that this idea is far superior than blizzards idea of vomiting infested terrans.

Just imagine, an infestor sneaks into your base and channels this infestation spell on one of your buidlings... and in a short time you see a beating heart on it while it slowly becomes under zerg control at the same time it becomes covered with sacs that will eventually pump out hatchlings.

Furthermore, infestation should not be a parasite, plague or summon type spell (infested terran) IMO... it should be a powerful spell that infests buidlings. Also, corruptors dont infest buildings... they just stop production.

Last point... corruptors corrupting buildings while the infestor infests building would be an awesome combo.

When I think of Infestor, I originally thought of "infesting", much like what Charles as stated. I really do like the ability and adds a more unique twist to the already twisted Zerg .

Though with a way to disable a building temporarily, I don't think Zerg really need another way of being able to do so. Zerg are pretty up there in terms of power right now, so anything more of what they already have is un-needed.

Still I love the idea though.
