Here are three new Blue posts from Cydra on the Starcraft 2 General Discussion Forum. They concern the current state of the Terran Sensor Tower, the Vespene Laughs Comic Contest and whether pressing Alt will have similar uses to WC3.

1. Is the proper name Radar Tower or Sensor Tower?
Sensor Tower

2. What model is being used: Radar Tower, Sensor Tower, or a completely new one?
Sensor Tower has a passive Radar ability which expose enemy movements within its radar capacity.

3. What are the stats? (mineral cost, gas cost, build time, HP, armor)
It costs 125 mineral and 100 geyser gas and it takes 25 build time. Sensor Tower has 200 hp and 0 default armor. You can upgrade the armor of buildings by 2 at Engineering Bay.

4. What is the range of the radar?
N/A

5. Do cloaked and burrowed units appear as blips within the radar's range?
No. Cloaked and burrowed units don't appear.

6. If yes for #5, will a unit be able to see cloaked and burrowed units that are within its visual range as well as the radar's range?
N/A

7. Does the Tower have any other special abilities besides its radar function?
No.

8. Is the Tower salvageable?
Yes. you can salvage it for 100% fund.

9. Is there anything else you can tell us about the Tower that I've missed?
N/A

I hope this one doesn't get ignored like you last submission that Knee stole from you. ^^ (j/k of course)

Ah and btw Sensor tower is THE most stupidest thing in SC2 right now. Although there are quite a few others it is without a doubt the king of all things retarded. =p

I agree it simply seems like a useless building. It provides nothing new and a well placed missile turret does the job pretty much just as good. Providing air defence/revealing cloaked/burrowed units.

Proxy radar towers are silly as well. Turrets work perfectly for that role.

I agree, why waste 125/100 resources on a useless tower, it only gives you some more seconds to notice an enemy coming...
Good to see that there will be more funny comics about starcraft.

Just out of my curiosity, where is the answer for question 4?? What is the actual range of a sensor tower???

I've got to say that if this Terran Sensor Tower can provide relatively large sight range, then it's as if Terran's got a mimic Xel'Naga Watch Tower in their base...

Even if it had a huge range. It costs 125 minerals and 100 vespene, when a missile turret is 100 minerals.

Seriously it's only use would be to use it in a proxy fashion. Spam them around the map to have a greater field of vision. But why go through the effort of placing sensor towers on high ground when you could place turrets, which can reveal units and attack air?

That gives me a great idea, you can build the Sensor Tower near the enemy base in a hidden spot like behind tall grass which blocks vision for example and see if units are going out of the base, that can be quite useful also the enemy knows where are the Xel'Naga watch towers but he doesn't know if there is a sensor tower somewhere near his base. Sensor towers don't have to be always inside the base.

I'm not really sure if Missile Turrets can be fully salvaged, I mean 100% salvage like Sensor Tower's. And the range issue is not so sure for MT either.

Agreed, and it will be boring. Scouting is much more exciting and its free. Watch towers do a better job as well as you will really know what is coming at you and saves you from worry and guessing.

I laugh at everyone who says a unit or building sucks, when THEY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE with it at all. Enjoy losing when I beat you all with my sensor towers.

lol, nice one gear! Your humor never fails to amaze me. I do like Angel of Zerg's idea of placing it behind grass where the enemy can't see it immediately. In addition, when they find it you can simply salvage it for 100% of the minerals and gas you put into it and then use the money to build units to retaliate his attack force with. I don't know about you guys, but I wouldn't judge the sensor tower until you guys actually play the game when it comes out or the Beta (for those with a Beta key *shakes fist*). -_-

I actually thought the sensor tower was good for some sort of detecting boost, great for expansion bases and in ruining hiding spots of grass and smoke XD lmao

I believe that the sensor tower will do a nice job

lets compare it to the missile turret

sensor tower/Missile turret
100/125 minerals
0/100 minerals
25/25 building time
250/200 hit points

special notes
missile turret can attack
missile turret detects
sensor tower has a HUGE sensing radius
sensor tower senses ANYWHERE within the radius (so on top a cliff or behind LOS blockers it dosent matter just place it where you want to sense any enemy movement)
they both can salvage
they took out where the enemy can sense the sensor tower sensing range on the minimap (YYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS WOOOOOOT WOOOOOT)

so missile turrets can attack and cost less and can detect but then again they dont sense tops of cliffs (they do have it now where you can have layers of cliffs not just 1 set) or see behind LOS blockers and also from what I last saw it would take like 3 missile turrets to cover as much sight area as the sensing range of a single sensor tower

these buildings are far from useless in fact these buildings are gonna be the things that save your life

edit (reply to Darkn3ss)

in number 7 and 9 they say anything else we should know about this building it pretty much says no so with my awesome deduction skills I'm taking it that they removed that or else he woulda put that in..... wouldn't he?

Lol

Well why is it so great, sir?
When I played stebo @ blizzcon I avoided his tower pretty easily with my mutas... I purposely camped within the range of is so he thought I might attack his front soon and then I just flew around the back w/ mutas and killed all of his SCV's ^^... anyway the point I'm trying to make is...:

a) It doesn't "decloak" units
b) Enemy can see the range... like the siege tanks... (STUPID!)
c) Expensive
d) Salvage only works when it's not being attacked (it takes time...)
e) Gear is noob
f) Just kidding
g) They don't give you vision, just lil dots within the radius... which could be 20 lings or 20 ultas... you won't know until I'm knocking at your supply depot wall...
z) ... etc, etc, etc...

So how exactly did it/will it help you beat everyone?!

Source?

btw **** a minimap... @ BlizzCon you could see a big, thick line of where the sight range stopped on the actual game screen... oO did they remove that?! Better... it was the stupidest thing ever!

@AB: I apologize AB for jacking your thread... i did scan yours but i didnt see that it included the protoss shield thing so i just made another one. Please forgive me.

Agreed. Except maybe colossus vulnerability. But i have to say sensor tower is pretty stupid.

@Darkn3ss: you implied that you can see tank range too. Is this true? Thats some ****ed up **** right there if so... may even compete with sensor tower for "the king of all things retarded."

Please blizzard... please stop goofing around.
